Canadian Premium Sand is an emerging company in the silica sand industry. The company is focused on becoming a leading provider of premium white silica sand to oil and gas operations in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. The Company’s flagship project is located approximately 200 kilometers North-East of Winnipeg, Manitoba close to the community of Wanipigow. Canadian Premium Sand’s Wanipigow Sand Project controls 862 hectares of contiguous quarry sand leases.

Canadian Premium Sand will operate year-round with a world-class, totally enclosed processing plant. A rolling restoration program will follow each year’s mining efforts to revegetate the land to its pre-quarrying state. This will be a long-term commitment of investment and resources for the region.

Plans are underway to submit all needed requirements for Environmental Licensing and to start the formal Consultation Process before the end of 2018. Hiring and workforce development training will begin early in 2019. Community leadership from Hollow Water, Seymourville, and Manigotagan have been in discussions with the company. The shared vision and combined desire of the communities is to be extracting silica sand before the end of 2019.

Wanipigow Silica Sand Deposit

The Seymourville Silica Sand deposit was discovered in 1977 and was drilled by Manitoba government geologists in 1981 and 1989. Based on the drill campaigns, government geologists estimated a resource of 45 million tons of high silica sand (as outlined in Manitoba Open File Report OF 96-4.) High purity silica sand is currently in high demand in the Western Canadian oil and gas fields where it is used as a proppant for horizontal drilling and fracturing. Industrial Silica Sand is high purity silica sand produced with closely controlled size specifications. It is a higher quality product than the sand used in concrete and construction materials. Silica (SiO2) is a group of minerals composed of silicon and oxygen. Silica is very hard, chemically inert, and has a high melting point, attributed to the strength of the bonds between the atoms. These are prized qualities in applications like foundries and filtration systems. Industrial silica sand’s strength and non-reactive properties make it an indispensable ingredient in the production of thousands of everyday products.

Oil & Gas

Silica Sand is used as a Hydraulic Fracture Proppant in the oil and gas industry in the hydraulic fracturing process. This process includes pumping silica sand into a closed wellbore using powerful hydraulic pumps with enough pressure to cause the formation to fracture. Silica Sand keeps artificial fractures open and creates a plane of high permeability through which oil or gas can flow. Silica Sand is used in virtually all shale oil and gas wells being drilled in North America today.
